Focus on Technology & Innovation The Tire Cologne 2026: &Airless& and &Connected& Tires Steal the Show

COLOGNE, GERMANY – Feb 11, 2026 – The future of mobility took center stage this week at The Tire Cologne 2026, where the industry’s biggest players unveiled groundbreaking technologies designed to meet the demands of autonomous and electric vehicles. This year, the spotlight was firmly on Non-Pneumatic Tires (NPT), also known as airless tires. Major manufacturers, including Michelin and Bridgestone, demonstrated near-production prototypes capable of supporting heavy commercial vans without the risk of punctures. These airless solutions are expected to reduce downtime for logistics fleets significantly. Another key trend observed on the show floor was the integration of RFID and sensor technology. "The tire is no longer just a piece of rubber; it is a data point," said Marcus Eibach, Director of Tech Mobility at the expo. "The new generation of tires communicates directly with the car’s onboard computer, adjusting braking distances based on tread depth and road conditions in real-time." The three-day event has attracted over 15,000 visitors, signaling a strong recovery for the European automotive aftermarket.
